Can you blog about the Olympics even if your blog has nothing to do with sports or China or The Olympics?
Of course you can! The whole world is watching the 2008 Summer Games in China - I bet you are too. So why not talk about it on your blog. I have a friend who blogged about his vacation recently. Has nothing to do with his area of expertise but it helped people get to know, like, and trust him. He posted pictures of his boys swimming with Dolphins!
Another friend 'tweeted' on the road while on vacation - nothing to do with HIS area of expertise either but it was fun. A huge part of Web 2.0 is having fun while getting your message out to the people you want to hear it. What good is life or our 'home' on the internet if we can't have fun too.
What is more fun than watching athletes compete for the Gold! And then blogging about it? Web 2.0 is all about building your community. I bet your readers would be happy to read your thoughts on The Games - and not wonder why you are talking about them either.
So go ahead and have fun - put pictures up from your favorite events. Scrape the Beijing logo and put it on your site - as long as you aren't using it for personal gain or some nefarious purpose I bet no one will mind. It's going on my blog shortly - along with a picture of the men's swimming team! What heart they showed and absolute joy in victory. We can all take a lesson from that.
The Bottom Line: Have fun and let your readers get to know you!
